Ever watched a master artist at work and marvelled at how much pleasure they take in the details? Its almost mesmerising, knowing that even if you can’t see the point of a tiny stroke or flourish, that there is indeed, a purpose for every single element in play.

Take another look at the image above. Note the two shadowy figures on the roof. Take a second to consider how many lights it took to get this night shot just right, and how many nights it took to prepare, just for one moment, in the hopes that the guy might actually jump as planned.

Introducing Greg Roebuck, one of New Zealand and Australia's top photographers, with more back to back winters behind him than you have fingers. Apart from jumping off massive cliffs and growing up surfing 12+ foot waves Greg has slowly perfected his photography skills and is only now giving the world a glimpse of his eye for detail. If you scroll all the way down you will see where you can ask him a question. We recommend asking two.

What kind of camera gear are you shooting with these days give us a run down?
Canon system, eos 1D mach 3, eos 3 body,70-200 f2.8,16-35 f2.8, 50 f1.4, 2 550ex

plus polaroid back and close up rings.

Geez. Whats your favourite thing to shoot and why?
Snowboarding cause its always changing and everyday is such a challenge.
My favourite is shooting low light with the medium format and profoto 7b. Cause its never sunny here in Washington.
So you have been shooting with top Kiwi and Aussie riders for the past few years now and recently moved to the USA.

What are your future plans with shooting and will you still shoot with the riders from the land down under?
My plans are to submit to the US mags which I have started to do.
I want to work with new riders and once Ive paid of the latest round of debt from purchasing camera gear I will eventually buy a sled.
I will continue to shoot with Kiwi riders and the skippys when I can.
Alot of good friends from NZ are shredders and I'll always have time for them.

Can you make a lot of money being a professional snowboard photographer?
Um no.
There is money to be made but its not the greatest pay especially down under. Hopefully its better here in the US.
Good opportunities though, and I love being in the mountains.

Who is your favourite person to shoot on their snowboard and why?
Anyone whos got the right attitude, maybe Dylan Butt cause he's the OG style master or Tim Jackways cause he kills it and hes super chill.

In your head what would be a perfect day at the office?
Anywhere in W.A, wake up, 2 feet of fresh and bluebird, 420, get there early.
Take some early morning laps without the pack to track it up.
Go hit the backcountry and get some shit done. Pillows or cliffs.
Stay out there late and get down as it gets dark.
420 and off home to chill.

What is the most photogenic mountain to shoot at and why?
Anywhere as long as its not inbounds, my faves are Red mtn and Whitewater B.C. Baker, Alpental and Stevenspass W.A.
And Jackson Hole WY.

Do you shoot skating and surfing much?
Not surfing as I dont live near the beach anymore. A bit of skating though, keen to get more done this summer
(my first summer in 9 years)
You are known for your call (Na its not a flat landing its sweet) ha ha is that true!
Yeah thats my call but only if its powder and I know I'd jump off it myself.
Some people tend to waste time lookin over the edge and going "oh i dunno".
In that case ill be like get out the f...ing way then i'll hit it

So after another big winter whats the plans for Summer?
Its gonna be my fist summer since 1999... Pretty chill really
Skating a lot, going to Malibu, hopefully a bit of surfing. Hanging out with the wife, learning about digital files and how to use my new digi. Hopefully some camping and just gettin outdoors.

Shout outs?
Everyone who let me point my camera at them, without them I'm nothing. My parents for their unconditional support (and the loans!)
Von Zipper, Nitro and The North Face in NZ for supporting me all those years. And of course the wife
